The mission of the Commission on Christian Education is to serve as the central planning and program department of the educational ministry of the church. The Commission provides leadership and direction in the development of a master plan for Christian education for Union Bethel and unites all auxiliaries in the church through organization and a common goal.
The goal of Christian Education is to help all persons to learn of God through Jesus Christ, grow in their understanding of the Christian faith, and be involved in the service, work, and witness for Christ. The Commission is responsible for seeing that Union Bethel members are provided many opportunities to become actively involved in teaching and learning experiences and to increase their spiritual growth and development.
Volunteered to assist the Class Leaders with the lay-out and design of the ministries section for the new 2010 church directory.
Met with ministry Presiding Officers to establish procedures for implementing Love Feast via the cluster concept. Received an update of ministry activities for the past quarter.
Provided guidance to the advisors of the O.U.R. Young Women’s Mentoring Program, which was scheduled to kick-off in late January 2010, and to the Young Men’s Mentoring Program.
In lieu of hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner, the Commission on Christian Education donated the funds that would have been expended to Union Bethel’s Women’s Missionary Society to assist with the purchase of food items for 35 families in need of Thanksgiving baskets.
Executed Christian Education Week, during the week of September 12-23, 2009. Christian Education Week began on Saturday with Leadership Training; commenced on Sunday with more than 170 members who registered or re-registered for a Bible Study, and more than 12 people signed up to join a ministry; on Tuesday Union Bethel AMEC hosted the Washington Conference Lay Organization Monthly Meeting; on Friday the YPD sponsored a Back to School Revival on Friday where the Rev. Latia Eaton of St. Luke AMEC minister to the youth; and on Sunday Christian Education On Sunday all officers participated in a service of Installation and Rededication. Rev. Ray Edmonds of Falls Road AMEC was the speaker. Lastly, on Tuesday September 23, the Girls Circle Ministry held its kickoff meeting.
Executed the Leadership Training session which was held on September 12, 2009. The theme was “Leading by Example: Effective Communication and Leadership Skills.” Approximately 60 officers who hold positions within the ministries were in attendance, as well as aspiring officers. The workshops were entitled “Effective Communication” and “Leading by Example: Becoming an Effective Leader by Using the Biblical Model of Servant Leadership.” The workshops were facilitated by three of Union Bethel’s stewards. Lastly, the church goals and objectives for 2009-2010 were reviewed.
Worked with two talented members to revive the Girls Circle Ministry. This ministry lapsed after the passing of its leader. The kickoff for the Girls Circle Ministry was held in September during Christian Education Week.
Drafted the church calendar for the 2009-2010 conference year with the assistance of Cluster Coordinators, Ministry Presidents, and the Vice Chair of Stewards. All dates submitted were scrutinized to ensure that there were no conflicts with other ministry events and are in line with the church objectives.
Assisted with the registration and teaching of Vacation Bible School, that was held on July 20-24, 2008.
Continued to maintain attendance records for the Wednesday Community Bible Study groups.
